Pinington Ltd were appointed to undertake a large scale upgrade of the existing backup water tanks and plate heat exchanger to Westmorland General Hospital Kendal.
The works comprised of the removal of the existing external water tanks, the erection of a new build masonry and cladded building to house the new water tanks and pump sets with a breakthrough connection into the service spine duct below for the new water supply pipework. Works also included the replacement of an existing plate heat exchanger within the main plantroom, replacement calorifiers and replacement of various pumps and pump sets. The final element of the works was to remove all existing redundant kit and equipment from various internal plantrooms that previously facilitated the existing water tanks.
The project was challenging from a programme perspective with various shutdowns and out of hours works needing to be planned to prove and change over existing services to new without having a detrimental effect on the day to day operation of the Hospital.
