Pinington were appointed as main contractor to construct a new 2 storey extension to the Emergency Department at Furness General Hospital. The project was a 29 week construction period with 10 phases working around the existing live emergency department.

The project itself consisted of a new resus facility with 3nr large resus bays, drugs perpetration areas and storage. A new dedicated emergency ambulance entrance and fully covered curved steel ambulance canopy. Formation of a new main entrance area with automated sliding door controls leading into new offices and consultation rooms within the existing main entrance.

The second floor of the new extension was a large plant room to house the new air handling plant, IPS and UPS power supplies, ventilation, pumps and various other elements of plant for the large scale M&E fit out on the project. Also within the hospital a new main panel was installed to feed the new resus extension along with other areas of the hospital with new sub-main distribution cables installed down existing main corridor routes.

The project was extremely challenging not just due to the integration of various trades but also due to the short programme and various different phases and working around a live Emergency Department. However all of these obstacles have been overcome with a fantastic end product and a very happy client.
