New Heating Plant and Ancillary Stores, Waddington
This pioneering energy efficient project partly funded by the Carbon Trust delivered a new biomass heating system to replace the separate systems which fed the existing buildings and associated storage buildings at Waddow Hall, Training & Activity Centre just outside Clitheroe.
The works comprised of three separate buildings; new plant room and woodchip store, new garage / workshop and a new storage building together with the installation of new district heating pipework and drainage.
The district heating pipework was pre-insulated plastic pipes buried in the ground linked to all buildings. A back up oil boiler was installed along side the Woodchip Boiler to provide back up to the woodchip boiler in the event of failure or during cold spells. The plant room was linked to a store constructed below ground to provide storage for the woodchip.
The centre was open through out the project which meant phased change over’s onto the new system which were programmed to eliminate any problems with the woodchip boiler prior to the main administration building changing over to the new system.
